San Francisco Bay Area Celebrity Photographer: Ronny Turiaf - Portraits of a Warrior

Photographing someone who is one and a half feet taller than me is not something I do everyday, but on occasion it is all in a days work. A few weeks ago I met NBA Basketball Player, Ronny Turiaf who plays for the Golden State Warriors, to capture some casual shots at his home for his website. Ronny Turiaf is originally from Martinique - which is unusual for basketball players. He has a reputation for having a big personality and a big heart. After spending several hours with him I can tell you that the stories are all true. This guy is the real deal - intelligent, funny and very engaging.    Passionate about helping the community, Ronny created the Heart to Heart Foundation, which is based on his own experience as a young athlete with heart issues, to provide health services including EKG’s, heart surgeries and defibrillators to children and schools in need.  Ronny is also absolutely in love with his beautiful, playful pit bull, Nina. As a dog lover myself, Ronny's attachment to Nina was very sweet to capture. The photos are now starting to come out on his website : www.ronnyturiaf21.org

I encourage you to get to know this guy which is quite easy through his videos, blogs and websites. Though I only spent a short time with him, I must say that I am now a fan for life.  

San Francisco Child Photographer - The Many Faces of Toddler Portraits

I love the days when I get to photograph little faces of growing children who I first photographed when they were only a few days old. I am so intrigued at how the essence of this person was there right from those first portraits, and I look into their faces now and think, "I know this little face. I have seen this face before".  And it tickles me so much to see them laugh and hear them talk. Human beings are simply amazing.  Last week I had one of those days - when Grace came back to my studio in Alameda for newborn family portraits with her baby sister Mia.  Grace is now two years old and both she and Mia did really well in the session. At the end of the session I took the opportunity to shoot some quick pics of Grace alone while they were dressing Mia.  I think I spent about three minutes shooting, and she gave me so many faces!  Now she is a busy little two year old and would not have stayed put for me, but I used a little trick where I put her up on a stool that is too tall for her to get off by herself - so she stayed in one place and entertained me be showing me where her nose was and playing peek-a-boo, and just being her beautiful, funny little Gracie self. We picked favorites from these few moments and created this 6-up collage that captures sweet Grace at two years old.

Bay Area Baby Photographer - Modern One Year Portraits: Birthday Cake & Baby Boudoir?

Babies should not really be considered boudoir subjects as that sounds rather creepy, but when Alexis' Mom brought baby lace leggings for her professional one year portraits in studio and we added some fake pearls and gerber daisies, I cant help but wonder if we have created a new style where baby boudoir is adorable, fresh and fun! see for yourself

 Then to celebrate her first birthday, we included a scrumptious, organic baby birthday cake (which was made by none other than my fabulous assistant Nicole Campion - did you know she is a pastry chef and can make the best cakes you have ever tasted for your next celebration?). Now, this was the first time that Alexis had ever tasted cake - and it is clear that she is a foodie at heart as she was all business!

 

San Francisco Bay Area Environmental Photographer - Spring Portraits for Toddlers

Finally the warm weather is here and the ground is starting to dry up! This lovely San Francisco spring weather was wonderful for an 18 month portrait session with Laya! It was so warm she was able to run around in rain boots and bloomers!  We also took the opportunity to get some oh-so-pretty-in-pink pictures of her in her spring dress - then on to fun and action with her ladybug rain boots.  Still processing this busy session - but here are a few favorites to ring in the spring!

East Bay Alameda Dog Photographer - Puppy Love

Today I photographed one of my Oh Baby! Club babies at 9 months with his adorable chihuahua Goucho and new 10 week old Maltese puppy, Trudy.  OMG - Trudy is the most adorable little ball of fluff you could ever hold in your hand (no offense Goucho).  And at two pounds she fits right in your hand! It was very hard to give her back.  I wanted to capture some pics of the puppy by herself to show her size. So I put a smallish lily in with her for context. But Trudy was smitten with that lily and was sure it was something to eat. She would not let that flower out of her mouth.  So here is Trudy with her lily.

Bay Area Maternity & Newborn Photographer - Fine Art Custom Design Albums

Just got in another fabulous custom design album filled with fine art maternity & newborn photography that is ready to go out to a client!  I just loved this new cover combination so I had to grab a shot before it leaves the studio. I am also just in love with this baby! 

There is no doubt that I ADORE photographing newborns.  I find them fascinating and amazing AND I have the honor of doing it one or more times a week.  But when I was photographing Sejal for her newborn session, I had the strangest feeling - and such a strong reaction to this little one. In the middle of the session it dawned on me that this little newborn girl looked sooooo much like my first born daughter that it just really tugged at my heart strings and brought me back to that place of first being a mother.  Now for those of you that do not know me, by looking at my head shot it would not seem likely that I could produce offspring that resembles this little bundle of wonder - but I assure you that my oldest daughter Sula, who is half Jamaican (of African and East Indian descent) was part of the original mold for this beautiful little baby girl Sejal.  So today we are thrilled to be sending out Sejal's album for her family to enjoy for generations to come!

Bay Area Teen Photographer - Bennett's Urban Teen Photography Session

Wow!

This session was wicked fun! Bennett has a unique sense of style which works very well for a little urban industrial teen portrait session.  I have worked with Bennett's phenom mom,  spunky jazz vocalist Natasha Miller, for years and have watched Bennett grow up - but this girl has grown into quite her own person. Alameda Baby Photographer - Katie's One Year Portraits in Studio

Yay! Katie turned one year old and we had a busy session in the studio to capture this milestone!  I have been photographing Katie since she was 4 months old - this is our third session together. Since she is not walking yet, the studio was still a great place for the session.{Once babies are active walkers I recommend outdoors or home studies with natural light for more room to roam.} But we also had another mission to accomplish for Katie's one year portrait. Katie's mom Heather had three generations of one year portraits (Heather, her mom, and her grandmother) in a frame and wanted to add Katie to this tradition and have her dressed similarly and holding Heather's teddy bear to match some of the previous photos.  I loved being part of this - so we consulted before the session to make sure we would have the right ingredients - and voila! Here is our one year portrait of Katie holding her mother's teddy bear that will be framed with the other three generations of portraits...

Then we changed it up and put on some colorful clothes for our modern one year professional portraits and here are some of my favorites from those pics...
