As an experienced san francisco bay area maternity and newborn photographer, I know how important it is to capture the milestones of the first year because babies change so darn fast! Once a baby is over 12 weeks old (newborns need longer sessions), I recommend doing mini sessions at key ages to capture that time and all that cuteness! Mini sessions are 30 minutes long and for babies that are not walking they are done at my studio on weekday mornings. For walking babies, I offer a 30 minute mini session at a location near my studio that will give them more room to roam.
The Oh Baby! Club is the baby plan at the studio that gives you three mini sessions between the ages of 14 weeks and 16 months for $295. Special discounts on prints, framed products and albums are also available for Oh Baby! Club members. You can get modern fine art photography of your baby at a great price - easy cheesy with 30 minute sessions - who needs the mall? And you can add extra mini sessions to your plan for just $75 per session. For maternity and newborn clients that purchase special packages, the Oh Baby! Club is included as a bonus item at no cost.
Here are some layouts from Chase's one year album - including chubby naked 6 month old Chase, holiday festive 11 month old Chase and tractor loving 16 month old Chase:
One year Portraits are one of my favorite subjects to photograph - and when it is with twins it is double fun! I photographed Jaya and Phillip for their maternity and also for their newborn, so I was so eager to see them again at their one year old milestone. These twins love to dance and take turns being smiley or cranky - as most twins do. So there is always someone in a good mood to capture. And these two were always on the move! Here are some of my favorites from the twin one year portraits in the san francisco bay area
Babies should not really be considered boudoir subjects as that sounds rather creepy, but when Alexis' Mom brought baby lace leggings for her professional one year portraits in studio and we added some fake pearls and gerber daisies, I cant help but wonder if we have created a new style where baby boudoir is adorable, fresh and fun! see for yourself
Then to celebrate her first birthday, we included a scrumptious, organic baby birthday cake (which was made by none other than my fabulous assistant Nicole Campion - did you know she is a pastry chef and can make the best cakes you have ever tasted for your next celebration?). Now, this was the first time that Alexis had ever tasted cake - and it is clear that she is a foodie at heart as she was all business!
Now if you have never met a six month old diva - this is your day. Meet Chloe - one of my delicious Oh Baby! Club babies that I photograph several times during her first year. At six months, Chloe was just mastering sitting and stuffing things in her mouth. Our modern 6 month baby portraits were so fun with several distinctly diva outfit changes - which mostly involved changing ribbons since even baby divas know that is is really all about the accessories. Here are some of my favorites from her 6 month session...
Yay! Katie turned one year old and we had a busy session in the studio to capture this milestone! I have been photographing Katie since she was 4 months old - this is our third session together. Since she is not walking yet, the studio was still a great place for the session.{Once babies are active walkers I recommend outdoors or home studies with natural light for more room to roam.} But we also had another mission to accomplish for Katie's one year portrait. Katie's mom Heather had three generations of one year portraits (Heather, her mom, and her grandmother) in a frame and wanted to add Katie to this tradition and have her dressed similarly and holding Heather's teddy bear to match some of the previous photos. I loved being part of this - so we consulted before the session to make sure we would have the right ingredients - and voila! Here is our one year portrait of Katie holding her mother's teddy bear that will be framed with the other three generations of portraits...
Then we changed it up and put on some colorful clothes for our modern one year professional portraits and here are some of my favorites from those pics...
Wow! We have had so much fun with our Love Book sessions the past two weeks! Clients came prepared with their quotes by choosing from a list or creating their own. They selected a style of book which we based the background color and clothing around. Then we had a short, creative session at my photography studio in Alameda to capture the images to put with the quotes. After the session, they chose their images from an online gallery for their book and we assembled the quotes with the images into a *sweet* valentine's love book. And the results are Fabulous! I only wish I could see the faces of the people who are receiving these love books as Valentine's Gifts.
For those of you that still want to get in on the fun - you can give
the Love Book as a gift session and book on Valentine's Day as long as
the session is scheduled on a weekday (9am to 4pm) in February. Click
here to see the original post for the sweet deal!
Here are some sample pages from a few of the books...
What better to do on a rainy day but photograph a bubbling baby boy in the studio?
Even better yet - I got to see baby boy Noah at seven months who was just two weeks old when I did newborn portraits of him, and in the belly the first time I photographed him. Now, Noah is a member of our popular Oh Baby! Club here at the studio which means I photograph him multiple times during his first fifteen months to document his development, personality, and mega-cuteness! Getting to know babies and children over time and documenting them as they grow up is definitely one of the highlights of my career.
One of the studio sets we did during our session was blue jeans and bare belly with Mom playing a supporting role with her legs, feet and hands. I am not big on props - I don't do cheesy - but I will often use parents as props as in these images below. Using parents as props also has the advantage of giving a size context to the baby as well as facilitating great expressions from the baby as they feel purty darn good with mom so close! Here are some bubbling baby boy blue jean shots of the day...

Once babies are just starting to walk - usually around one year - natural light photography sessions outdoor are a great choice. For little girls you can't beat a lovely garden for a beautiful background. In the Bay Area we have several great choices for Photography Sessions in Rose gardens including the Berkeley Rose Garden, the Oakland Rose Garden and several in San Jose.
I met Avena to photograph her in Oakland for her first portrait session! Avena is a clever, funny, charming little girl with a heart winning smile. Here are some of my favorites from the session.
