Bay Area Teen Portraits : Art in the Garden

When I went to Ruby's garden for a cool, edgey teen photo session based in nature,  I knew it would be an artsy little place since her parents are both artists, but WOW did I love shooting in that little garden in Alameda!  Her father, Mark Wagner, is a Bay Area California concept artist who has sprinkled his own artwork as well as "found" objects" through out the yard.  Combining his eclectic art garden space with the beauty and natural grace of Ruby made for an awesome session - the kind that makes me feel good for days.  Thanks to Laurie and Mark for sharing their space and their gorgeous, funny girl Ruby with my camera!  Here are a few of my favs...

Well it took me a while to edit down the hundreds of images that I took the day of the event, but I finally got them edited, sorted and uploaded for all to see and vote on. I have to admit that these dogs had me laughing as I edited away because they are such characters!

Bay Area Senior Portrait Photographer : Castro Valley Senior Portraits with a Horse

I have had some very fun assignments lately - and fortunately had a moment to blog about today's photographic adventure.  This morning I met Jess at her stable in Castro Valley for her Senior Portraits - which just had to include her horse Mariah. I was game - I love animals, and always strive to incorporate elements of peoples lives to create modern, cool senior portraits that capture who they really are. I am still editing this session but wanted to throw a few up here that caught my eye.

Now on to finish editing and uploading my Puparazzi Portraits for the East Bay SPCA - 20 dogs!

Bay Area Fine Art Maternity Photographer - With Golden Child

I have not blogged in a while about maternity sessions - which is odd since I do so many of them. I love photographing pregnant women when they are nice and curvy - around 34 to 35 weeks.  A week before the session we meet to consult about the style of images they are looking. In the session I strive to create different moods using studio lighting.  I encourage women to incorporate fabrics or items that are significant to them into the session - sheer fabrics with some kind of iridescence work best. Sometimes it is a wedding veil, or just some beautiful fabric. Today, Lelma brought in some gorgeous fabrics that she got at a Sari shop and we created some beautiful images of her with the fabrics, which we will then follow up after the baby is born with the newborn wrapped in the same fabrics.

Each dog can be entered into up to 3 contests which include Biggest Dog, Senior Dog, Smallest Dog, Ugliest dog, Best Groomed Dog and Best Dressed Dog. The winner for each contest will be featured on the home page of the East Bay SPCA, and the dog with the most votes overall - the Top Dog - will be featured on the cover of the East Bay SPCA newsletter Animal Friends!

Humans are welcome in the pics with the dogs too! But we will need a solo pic of each dog for contest entry.

Bay Area Newborn Twins Photographer : Double Luck - Sleeping Newborn Twins!

Double Luck. Double Joy.  The stars were surely shining on my Alameda studio today when I photographed newborn twins Francisco and Sofia at 5 weeks old. It is hard enough to get one baby to sleep during a newborn session - but we had some moments with both of these babies sleeping!  This was one of my favorite newborn twin fine art portraits during their moments of bliss...

Alameda Newborn Photographer : Back from Missouri - Introducing Zetta Marie....

I am just settling back into the studio after visiting Missouri to meet my brand new grandchild, Zetta Marie Skiles.  She is absolutely precious and quite the smiler - even at 10 days old.  I have many pics to process, but to stem the oncoming tide of requests to see what she looks like through my lens, I am uploading one of my favorites - so here she is, all 6 lbs 4 oz of her in her daddy's arms...

San Francisco Artistic Newborn Photographer | capturing the beauty of the awake newborn

 It is no secret that I love photographing newborns. And over the years I have developed purty good timing if I do say so myself. For those of you that do not know, an awake newborn is moving almost constantly, not to mention fussing frequently. So many photographers opt for the sleeping newborn - a beautiful subject for sure. In my newborn sessions I do capture the beauty of the sleeping newborn, but the bigger challenge is capturing an awake, naked newborn and timing the shot just right so that he actually looks calm (he was fussing off and on), is looking at the camera (thanks to colorful toys shaken in front of camera) and to have all of the body parts aligned so that none of the awkward bits and pieces are showing (no easy task with naked newborn boys!) And Voila - with the right timing you can capture the shot!  This one is from a fun natural light newborn home session in San Francisco today with Michael, Maria and their beautiful son Alexander.

This was a fun session - two musicians and their dog.  I always encourage people to include their families in the session, and honestly dogs are a big part of many of our families - so I say let's include them in at least some of the photos!  Studio portraits of dogs is always fun, but add in some fancy duds, a flute and a violin and I was having a blast! Elizabeth wanted to do her portraits in studio, and she brought along this guitar which is one thing she loves most. We had a great session and got some cool shots that really captured her relationship to her music.
