Bay Area Senior Portrait Photographer : Castro Valley Senior Portraits with a Horse

I have had some very fun assignments lately - and fortunately had a moment to blog about today's photographic adventure.  This morning I met Jess at her stable in Castro Valley for her Senior Portraits - which just had to include her horse Mariah. I was game - I love animals, and always strive to incorporate elements of peoples lives to create modern, cool senior portraits that capture who they really are. I am still editing this session but wanted to throw a few up here that caught my eye.

Bay Area Pet Photographer - A day with the dogs (and cat) at the East Bay SPCA

Things are tough these days, so when I was looking for a new charity to work with this year - there were so many to choose from!  But I started reflecting on how my life has changed after adopting our dog Ginger from the East Bay SPCA eight months ago, and it made me realize that a pet adds so much happiness to your life that even in these challenging economic times, a pet is well worth the investment.  I have several EXCITING events in the planning stages with this wonderful organization, but to start out I spent part of a day photographing some very deserving animals to hopefully improve their chances of finding  good homes.  All of the dogs were involved in a cool program called TLC (Teaching Love and Compassion) which matches up kids in a local middle school with the dogs to train and love - but not necessarily adopt.  Now they are graduating and wanted to have a good photo to give to their new friends.  I worked with one of their awesome dog trainers, Ellen, and photographed all seven of the TLC dogs as well as one wonderful older cat in need of a loving home. All of the dogs had to have their leashes on for the photos  - but natural light pet photography along with some tasty treats still made for some engaging images.

All of these dogs were great fun to work with and spend time with - they are each such characters and will make great pets for the right match. To find out more about their ages, breeds and personalities, you can contact the SPCA in Oakland to go meet these animals to see if you are a good fit. All of them except pow wow were available for adoption as of yesterday.  For the record - if anyone brings Nicholas any where near my thirteen year daughter - the dog will never make it out of her arms again. He is a little teddy bear in a dog form!  Although she would love to adopt any and all of these dogs if she could - which is why she will not be my assistant any time soon for this project!

So here is the deal – for $295 you get a 30 minute weekday session with Anna, an 8x8 Love Quotes book with 6 images from the session and your chosen quotes or you child’s quotes. To make it EXTRA EASY, you bring your quotes with you to the session, and then after the session the images will be uploaded to a 3-day online gallery for you to select the 6 images, then we put it all together and ship your book to you! Additional pages/images can be added to the book for $50 each. Another Brown Eyed Girl Joins the Family...

We have a new addition to our family this year, and believe it or not it has taken me some time to get some good pics of her! Yes, we adopted a red and white border collie from the East Bay SPCA  in Oakland and named her Ginger.  She is officially my thirteen year old's dog, but she is taken care of by all.  She is extremely smart, very social and sweet, and even a bit sassy, which is why her full name is 'Ginger Sassafras Myers'.  She is camera shy which is why it took me a while for her to get used to cameras enough for me to get some pics that show her personality. 

We are now officially a dog family - getting up before the sun to walk her through the neighborhoods for her morning walk, always having poop bags in one pocket and grain free treats in the other and my trusty iphone which has a great flashlight feature when you need to look for things in the dark - yes we have officially joined the community of dog owners. Some of our favorite spots for dog adventures are Pt Isabel, Berkeley Marina, Crissy Fields, Skyline Gate in the Oakland Hills and Muir Woods Beach.  Ginger is a border collie - and will not chase balls, but instead takes her work very seriously of herding dogs that are chasing balls. In her eyes we are all sheep to be herded and tended, but she takes good care of us. Here are some debut photos of our newest brown eyed girl in the family in her first holiday session...
